LeBron James Speaks for Darfur (finally!)
Friday, May 9th, 2008What a red-letter day for our first Aid Still Required blog post! This morning ESPN’s Outside The Lines aired an news segment on athletes and activism. LeBron James, who last spring (2007) had declined to sign former Cavalier teammate Ira Newble’s letter from NBA players to the government of China about their policies in The Sudan, has come out voicing strong support for human rights and an intention to mobilize the NBA Olympic team to speak out regarding these issues.

Hunter and I were contacted by correspondent Shelley Smith in March about the segment and were able to put her in touch with Ira Newble and Steve Nash, plus provide ESPN with our PSA footage of Kobe and Steve. We didn’t make the interview cut, but wow, did our guys look great.
