There will be something for everyone:   Whole Family Cookbook author, Scholastic 2010 Parent Blogger Award winner, mom, and former high-school teacher Michelle Stern will be signing copies of her new cookbook.  Clark Valley Organic Farms is providing healthy snacks, Storyland Yoga is presenting a yoga class,  Kids Entertainer Jody Mulgrew will be there with a drum circle, musician Chad Schmidt of Wadsworth Bluff Rats, will be playing, and there will be Nature Crafts – fashion your very own sea kelp shaker!

In addition to making a brief presentation about Aid Still Required, Andrea and Hunter will speak about The Garden of Eatin’, a community garden project for kids in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward which was greatly affected by Hurricane Katrina.  Hunter and Andrea have been following the work of project creator Common Gorund Relief and are thrilled the project is such a great fit for Aid Still Required’s mission – and something that Family Fun Day event participants will want to support.

The Garden of Eatin’ children have the opportunity to learn about the importance of healthy foods and a healthy environment, to prepare the soil and plant seeds, to nurture growing fruits and vegetables throughout the year, and then harvest their crops! Some of these kids have never left the inner city district of the Lower Ninth Ward, but the Garden of Eatin’ brings them out to the country where they learn more about the multitude of benefits of growing food, eating healthily, and being in nature.  Check out Playful Planet for more information.
